Darlene Gardner graduated from Penn State with a degree in journalism and worked for newspapers in Fort Lauderdale and Charleston, S.C. as a sports writer, features writer, and copy editor before switching to full-time fiction writing.

She grew up in the Pittsburgh area and now lives in Northern Virginia with her journalist husband and two children.
