Sam McKall is the campaign manager for United States Senator Maggie Hansen. When controversial environmentalist Steve Tate is murdered, the evidence mounts up against the senator's brother, Vernon Hansen. Vernon is a large rancher and outspoken opponent of the environmental movement whose cattle Tate had been shooting around the time he died. As the investigation tightens around Vernon, Maggie's opponents are digging up her past. They want to link her to the murder and beat her in the election. Putting his own life in danger, Sam must stay one step ahead of the press to deal with political ramifications and solve the murder or see Maggie's career be destroyed.

Eric C. Evans was born and reared in Marianna, Florida. For the past twelve years, he has been a political consultant in the Rocky Mountain west where he lives with his wife and six children. He can usually be found consulting, coaching little league, attending a dance recital, or working on his next novel.
