Luke Ludd has only been the sheriff in Rising Star for a year when he finds his friends Tom and Beth Tidwell shot dead, their home ransacked and their mules and wagon stolen. With grief and vengeance in his heart, Luke follows the wagon tracks west to Sweetwater.

He quickly discovers the identities of the killers. Pots and Leonard Logan are two of five brothers known for their murderous ways. But on the trail of the Logans, Luke finds himself surrounded on all sides by attacking Indians. Between both foe, Luke may have bitten off more than he can chew.

Luke will have to fight for his life to do what is right by his friends. If he can escape the Indians and evade an ambush by the Logans, he just may live to see justice done.
