Acting as a decoy for a man carrying a message to Sam Houston, Bob Walker finds himself smack in the middle of the marauding Mexican army shortly after the Alamo has been lost. Like any good Texan, he is determined to avenge the death of his kin, but he must reunite with the American troops first. On the trail where danger lurks over every ridge, Walker meets Kate Rush, a free black man called Uncle Ned, and four little girls who are stranded with a busted wagon.

Travelling together, they are hotly pursued by the Sandinistas and the Comanche, and march through frigid rain and the swamps. They are befriended by a wild man, Joe Two-Fingers, and a Cherokee, Rides-With-The-Rain, who also understand the treachery of war. Together this stout-hearted band sets out over dangerous territory in search of family and safety.

Kent Conwell grew up in the Texas Panhandle, in the town of Wheeler, population 848. When his family moved to Fort Worth, he spent many hours at the stock yards, but he still managed to earn his bachelor's degree. After moving to Port Neches, Texas, Kent married, earned a master's degree and a Ph.D., and achieved a successful career in education, but his love for writing and the west never waned. Over the years, he has won short story, screenplay, mystery, and western fiction awards.

The Alamo Trail is Kent's sixteenth book for Avalon.
